The government is also considering building an elevated road to connect the airport with NH 48. The airport’s entrance is likely to be on the new Chennai-Bengaluru expressway that is to be built. And the government has announced that it would extend metro rail to Sriperumbudur. There are a few residential clusters, which will be relocated. This should make acquisition less of a problem.

The 4,000-acre site, on the right side of t h e p r e s e n t NH48 to Bengaluru beyond the industrial hub of Sriperumbudur, is mostly open agricultural land. Now, it may take around two years for the paperwork to be completed and another four to five years to complete construction of the city’s second airport.
